Q: Who would make a good volleyball official?
A: High school volleyball officials, college players,
adults with playing experience, parents of former players.
Anyone with exposure to the sport or experience in the sport would
be ideal.
Q: Do you provide training? If so, when is it?
A: Yes. The Florida Region will attempt to hold
a Regional Training Clinic in each of our four districts (District
Map) to limit the amount of travel necessary for interested
officials. Training clinics are FREE.
Q: How do I sign up?
A: By registering online and completing the required
USA Volleyball background screen.

Q: What will it cost me to get started?
A: Here is a summary of your anticipated startup
costs to become a USA Volleyball official:
-Annual Membership: $45.00
-Background Screen: $17.50
-Officiating Uniform & Equipment: $50.00 to $75.00
-Training Class: FREE
-TOTAL COST: $112.50 to $137.50
Q: What are your certification levels?
A: USA Volleyball currently offers the following
certifications for officials:
-Provisional, any new official to USA
Volleyball.
-Regional, any official who passes a rating by
the Florida Region rating team. This process can take a few
years, but individuals can progress faster based on their knowledge
and skills.
-Jr. National, any individual with a rank of
Regional Official can apply to attend a National event and be rated
by the USA Volleyball National Rating Team to achieve this ranking.
Usually an official must have at least 2 years of experience as a
Regional official.
-National, any individual with a rank of Jr.
National Official can also apply to attend a National event and be
rated by the USA Volleyball National Rating Team to achieve this
ranking.
Q: How much will I earn?
A: Officials in the Florida Region are paid based on
their experience and certifications:
-Level 1 Officials: $25 per match (Provisional)
-Level 2 Officials: $27 per match (Regional)
-Level 3 Officials: $30 per match (Jr. National &
National)
Note: Many tournaments cover hotel charges, per-diem
(food), and offer various types of apparel for officials. This
pay scale if for Region hosted tournaments. Private
tournaments are encouraged to use the same scale; however, is is not
mandatory. Please confirm the pay scale before you agree to
work an event.
Q: How far will I have to drive?
A: Tournaments take place throughout the state and
country. You can travel as far and as often as you desire.
We have tournaments on almost every weekend during the season, and
often times there are several during the same weekend.
Q: How often will I be able to work?
A: You may be able to work almost every weekend from
mid-January to May of each year. Currently Tournament
Directors procure their own officials. We are putting together
a list of qualified officials from each Regional Training Clinic and
will provide these names to the Tournament Directors. |
